Day 314...

So...

This morning...driving to work...browsing through the stations...I heard a note from one of my all-time favourite-feel-good-happy songs.

Mary Chapin Carpenter. Down at the Twist and Shout.

I turned it up, started singing along, and dancing in my car.

After a few moments...

I noticed the fella in the car in front of me

looking in his rearview mirror and smiling.

and then I was blissfully happy.

because today.

I was one of those people...smiling, singing and dancing in my car.

and making a stranger smile.

Day 307...or... "and then I was hit with a banana"

I've been a bit under the weather the last few days, so I got a bit behind on my daily love.

but today, whilst walking down the frozen food aisle at Trader Joe's, I was randomly hit by a flying banana.

it was truly a case of perfect timing. I was asking my sweetheart if we still had mushroom risotto, when mid-sentence, a banana hit me in the arm.

I laughed and simply said "I just got hit with a banana!"

The poor mama of the child who threw the banana was mildly horrified...all I could do was laugh...

flying. banana.

Day fifty-one - I love...misspelled signs

There are a lot of them.

One of my favourites ever...ever ever...was spotted by my Midget about 7 or 8 years ago.

While running errands one afternoon she noticed a hand-made sign posted to a telephone pole which read: "Lost black poodle." "But," she said, "it's spelled puddle!"

By the time I called my mother to share the story of this poor little lost rainy puddle, I was in hysterics and she could hardly understand me.

It's something we still laugh about today.

This has truly been a game of ours since I was young - noticing funny misspellings on signage. There have been many phone calls and laughs over the silly things we've read.

I still text my mom when I find these mistakes. and yesterday, while driving back and forth between the apartment we were moving out of, and the apartment we were moving to...we passed a business with a printed sign out front which read: Apparell shop.

Day thirty-eight - I love...laughter

A few years ago I had an idea for a project.

I envisioned a wonderful little coffee table book full of quotes, poems and photos of laughter. I even had a title ready "The Best Medicine."

I don't know if I'll ever do more with it, but I still love the idea. and rather than let it go to waste, I'll share the beginnings of it with you now. (these are not necessarily the best quality photos - but these were the baby steps of this project - and the joy supersedes the photographic quality)

The Best Medicine...

Day twenty-one - I love...the perfect reaction

I like a good reaction.

whether hysterical laughter, shock, whimsy, or the ever wonderful uttering of the word "fuck" at just the perfect moment.

yesterday, in a supreme moment of stress, I lost my shit a little bit. at that precise moment, my friend Beanie walked around the corner to tell me something and caught me with tears threatening to spill...

she stopped. "what?"

I said, "no. tell me what you were going to say."

so she proceeded to tell me the story. she was on the phone with her mother when the phone started cutting out. "mom. the phones breaking up."

and the phone went dead.

a few minutes later her mother called back and Beanie said "mom, I don't know what happened." her mother said, "I do. I got in the car and drove down the road...while talking to you on the house phone."

I laughed my ass off! it was the best possible funny at that moment to ease my tension a bit.

then I shared my bit of stressful news, and B let out the most amazing, beautiful, perfect utterance of the word "fuck" I think I've ever heard.

I said, "yah. you're right. fuuuuuuccccck!"

sometimes, there's just no better word to express an exact feeling. and yesterday, it really was...the perfect word.

Day seventeen - I love...laughter

especially on rough days, when it is harder to come by. amazing what a touch of laughter can do to ease your soul...even just a little bit...even for just a moment.
